The biggest Nordic packaging competition Packnorth Award is launching a new competition category following a proposal from the Swedish Rheumatism Association. User-friendly packaging is a category in which the Swedish Rheumatism Association will select packaging solutions that it considers meeting a high standard in terms of ease of opening and handling. These packages will then be nominated for further evaluation by the Packnorth Award jury.

-It is very positive that the organisers behind the Packnorth Award have listened to the Swedish Rheumatism Association. If this can motivate companies to design good packaging that works for people with reduced hand function, then all consumers will benefit. We hope that the new competition category will inspire new solutions that work in people’s everyday lives,” says Stina Nordström, Secretary-General of the Swedish Rheumatism Association.

-I can state that problems concerning usability and ease of opening have been discussed since the 1960s. Certainly, technology and design have developed for the better, but much remains to be done – and it should, of course, not take another 60 years. By now entering a collaboration with the Swedish Rheumatism Association through a category in the Packnorth Awards, we aim to place further focus on the issue and encourage smart solutions,” says Bo Wallteg, Editor-in-Chief of Packnews, which organises the competition.
